# Welcome to Alps WTF is Alps? Learn more about Alps and DAOs in general by reading through this guide. It's designed to be read linearly, so start here and follow the buttons at the bottom that will take you on a journey of all the things you need to know. Alps is focused on establishing long term relationships with alpine resorts to proliferate Nouns, provide unique membership perks to members and support proposals that enhance on-mountain environments. *Don’t know what a DAO is? Read more* [*here*](https://ethereum.org/en/dao/)*.* Membership is open to anyone who holds an Alp token. Alps are [ERC-721](https://ethereum.org/en/developers/docs/standards/tokens/erc-721/#top) tokens (NFTs) and are minted onchain (i.e. all artwork and metadata is stored directly on the Ethereum blockchain). Alps are 32x32 pixel [SVG](https://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/IG/resources/svgprimer.html) artworks, created by hand and layered generatively using the Alps protocol. Each Alp is uniquely different in terms of trait combinations and token ID. Alps may be purchased first-hand via live bidding on the [auction site](https://alps.wtf) or purchased on secondary marketplaces. 100% of Alp token sale proceeds are sent to the Alps treasury; a permissionless/trustless smart contract that is governed by the community of Alp token holders, whereby each Alp token represents 1 vote. Decisions on the use of treasury funds are determined through the collective voting rights of Alps members, Alp holders. Alp token holders can benefit from membership perks, community engagement activities and most importantly, support the community’s objectives by submitting and voting on proposals funded by the treasury. # Vision, Mission & Objectives [Vision](/about-us/vision-mission-and-objectives/vision) [Mission](/about-us/vision-mission-and-objectives/mission) [Objectives](/about-us/vision-mission-and-objectives/objectives) # Vision ## Our Vision The Alps vision is to support and benefit alpine enthusiasts and communities via a self-sustaining, member driven governance and treasury protocol. This is a new way of generating funds to achieve goals as a community rather than the typical traditional business models of the past. Alps could fund films, events, support athletes, work together to create a resort staff guild, even build staff accommodation if the community grows large enough and desires. # Mission ## Our Mission The Alps mission is to fund proposals from the treasury that benefit communities and their members by enhancing on-mountain environments and experiences. We aim to support local businesses in alpine areas and provide members with unique benefits related to alpine communities across the globe. Alps has already found the first resort partner - Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido, Japan, where members are working to test and prove a number of different initiatives that can then be scaled to other resorts. # Objectives ## Our Objectives Alps has established the following objectives which are aimed to be self-funded through the DAO treasury: * Build a community of alpine enthusiasts * Proliferate Nouns within alpine communities * Improve alpine regions * Create Nounish features and infrastructure * Provide member benefits * Organise/Host IRL events Alp holders are encouraged to participate by voting on and submitting proposals for funding that meet the aforementioned objectives. # Community Building Alpine activities are best done in groups. Fostering community through Alps' communication channels will enable members to share ideas, destinations, gear, tips and tricks. Additionally, there is endless potential for planning IRL meetups and trips at alpine locations. Example proposal ideas: * Annual IRL meetup events at an alpine resort (northern/southern hemisphere, winter/summer) * Curated Discord channels for destination guides, gear marketplace, local hangouts, trip planning, jobs, proposal ideas and events # Proliferating Nouns A core objective for every Nouns extension is proliferation. Alps will consistently identify opportunities within alpine communities to proliferate Nouns. Alps will prioritise initiatives that provide long-term branding, association, visibility and education. Example proposal ideas: * Sponsored on-mountain events e.g. competitions, festivals * Wrapped gondolas and chairlifts with nounish art * Sponsored ski schools * Sponsored ski patrol and instructor apparel * Naming and/or branding rights for ski maps, courses, runs and lifts * Nounish alpine merchandise – goggles, snowboards, skis, helmets, apparel, in room items # Improving Alpine Regions The often remoteness and rural demographic of alpine regions creates challenges for inhabitants and the environment. Alps aims to support alpine regions and communities where possible. Example proposal ideas: * Initiatives that help improve agriculture, environment, energy, communication, education, transportation and safety. # Nounish Features and Infrastructure How can "nounishness" be spread physically and with a sense of place and permanence? We envisage alpine communities embracing features and infrastructure that encapsulate our community’s culture and vibe. Example proposal ideas: * Nounish establishments – retail, food and beverage, lodging * Nounish on-mountain rest stations and warming huts * Nounish terrain parks and features # Member Benefits As token ownership grows, Alps will be able to more easily leverage the size of the community to negotiate benefits for members. Example proposal ideas: * Discounted lodging, lift passes, retail, rentals, lessons, food/beverage and experiences * First tracks VIP lift access * Nounish merchandise * Gamification, competitions and rewards # IRL Events Touching snow is what we’re all about, though we of course encourage year round activities touching grass, rock, dirt, sand and water. Alp holders are encouraged to propose meetups and events for the community. Example proposal ideas: * Seasonal on-mountain events * Local competitions * Alpine conferences * Regular meetups and activities # Auctions and NFTs ## Alp Auction Cadence 1 Alp is auctioned every 3 hours (8 per day). This auction cadence is representative of the 8 largest alpine tundra biomes across the globe – the Himalayas, Scottish Highlands, Scandinavian Mountains, American Cordillera, Rift Mountains of Africa, Carpathian and Pyrenees Mountains, Caucasus Mountains and the Tibetan Plateau. ## Alp Bidding and Settling ### Bids Once an auction starts, everyone has 3 hours to bid. The auction reserve price is set at 0.08 ETH. Bids at the very last minute increase the auction time by 3 minutes. Sometimes, multiple bids are sent at the same time. This may result in bids coming in and winning an auction at the very last minute/seconds (irrespective of time increase). ### Settlement Anyone can settle an auction. When an auction ends, a gas-only transaction is required to start the next auction (mint the next Alp token) and send the current Alp to the winner’s wallet. As gas price fluctuates, the cost of settlement also fluctuates. Settlement gas price of every 4th and 9th Alp is higher. This is due to the transactions also triggering 1 Alp minted and sent to the founders or the alpine council during the first 5 years. If an auction remains unsettled, it simply waits until someone does settle and kicks off again at that point. ### Bid Refunds Unsuccessful bids are refunded in full, less gas spent to bid. Refunds are sent via an internal transaction included in the transaction of a new higher bid. This means that refunds for unsuccessful bids occur when a higher bid is received. ### Auctions with No Bids Alps that are not bid on at auction are sent to the Alps Warming Hut. This address holds lost Alps for rescue opportunities and burn events. Rescues can include [prop house rounds](https://prop.house/alps), competitions, giveaways, promo, charity and burn events. # Proposal Submissions ## Submit a Proposal {% hint style="info" %} Any Alp owner or delegate may submit a proposal as long as they meet the proposal threshold. This threshold is the minimum number of Alp tokens you need, whether owned or delegated to you and the threshold can be changed via proposal. Current threshold: 1 Alp is required to submit proposals. {% endhint %} A proposal is one or more transactions to be executed by the Alps smart contract suite. Proposals can range from funding addresses to more complex structures that interact with other contracts. Below are instructions for Alp owners to submit a proposal to Alps. #### Proposal to fund a project via transfer of funds Most Alps proposals will likely revolve around funding teams that build on the Nouns, Alps or Gnars protocols. For this reason, the basic template for a proposal is to send ETH to one or multiple addresses from the Alps treasury. To do so, follow the instructions below: 1. Head over to the [proposals (DAO) page](https://alps.wtf/vote) and click on the "Create Proposal" button. 2. Click the "Add Transaction" button. The "Add a Proposal Transaction" modal should pop up. Follow the steps in the modal as follows: * Step 1: `Address` is the address of the desired recipient * Step 2: `Value` is the amount of ETH to be sent to the recipient denominated in ETH * Skip step 3 and 4. These steps are required for external contract interactions. * Step 5: Review that both `address` and `value` are correct. If so, click the "Add Transaction" button. 3. If your proposal requires multiple transactions, repeat step 2 with each recipient address. 4. Fill in the proposal title and description. Descriptions accept [markdown](https://www.markdownguide.org/cheat-sheet/) for formatting and you can use an online editor (eg [dillinger.io](https://dillinger.io/) or [HackMD](https://hackmd.io/)) to compose and preview. 5. Submit your proposal by clicking the "Create Proposal" button. The wallet submitting the proposal must hold or be delegated the minimum threshold of the total Alps supply to submit. Note: * Governance proposals occur onchain and require a transaction. Ethereum transactions require paying a transaction fee, when you submit a proposal you will have to pay the transaction fee. While Alps' governance contracts use techniques to reduce the amount of gas required to submit a proposal it may still be a significant to submit your proposal. * We're planning a potential migration to a layer 2 network like Zora which would reduce costs of all aspects. {% hint style="info" %} If your proposal involves transactions that interact with other contracts, please reach out via the[ Alps Discord](https://discord.gg/V2uNwrwXga) so we can help you out! {% endhint %} # Proposal Voting As an Alp token holder, you can participate in governance of the treasury by submitting and voting on proposals. By winning an Alp token at auction and after the auction is settled, or purchasing an Alp token on secondary marketplaces, your digital wallet will receive an Alp token that represents 1 vote. Visit the [Proposals (DAO) page](https://alps.wtf/vote) to read through any proposals, submit a proposal or cast your votes. Once a proposal has been published onchain, there is a waiting period of 48 hours before votes can be cast. Voting is open for 5 days. Alp holders or delegates will be able to vote. After the voting period ends, if quorum/threshold is met (minimum required FOR votes, which is a minimum of 10%, scaling up to 15% of the total Alp supply when there is AGAINST votes), the proposed transactions (funding) can be queued upon proposal success and executed 2 days after. A proposal, once published onchain, follows this process: * **Waiting Period**: There's a 48-hour waiting period after a proposal is published before voting begins. * **Voting Duration**: Voting lasts for 5 days. During this time, holders of Alp tokens or their delegates can cast their votes. * **Quorum/Threshold Requirement**: For a proposal to be considered, it must meet a minimum 'FOR' vote threshold. This threshold starts at 10% of the total Alp supply. If there are 'AGAINST' votes, the threshold scales up to 15%. * **Post-Voting, Queue the Proposal**: If the quorum/threshold is met, the proposal is deemed successful. The proposal can then be queued, which is a manual transaction that anyone can carry out. * **Execute Proposal**: There's a 48-hour delay before a successfully queued proposal can be executed. The execution can be done by anyone and is a manual transaction which initiates the transaction/s outlined in the proposal. To cast a vote, Alps members will need to: 1. Visit the [Proposals (DAO) page](https://alps.wtf/vote) and connect your wallet holding your Alp token/s. This verifies token ownership. 2. Click on "Submit Vote" to bring up the vote modal. 3. Fill in your reason and select FOR, AGAINST or ABSTAIN. 4. Submit your vote by paying a small gas fee. # How We Work Together Being a DAO means that team members are actually the community of like-minded individuals who collectively work together towards the shared [vision, mission and objectives](/about-us/vision-mission-and-objectives). {% hint style="info" %} Team members (including the founders) participate without compensation unless compensatory proposals are submitted and voted on by the community of Alp token holders {% endhint %} The group is open for others to join who show passion and dedication to the mission. ### Community Roles * Community Management & Moderation * Development & Engineering * Partnership Building * Event Organisation & Support * Marketing ### Alpine Council There's a group called the Alpine Council, which are early contributors and supporters. This group's aim is to help steward the community and new members, guide initiatives and collectively vote on proposals. ### Founder Roles The founders of Alps are committed to actively steer growth and proliferation from the beginning to help guide the course.
